Singer-Songwriter Sonia Deleo holds nothing back when speaking about her work Two Moons: A Folk Lullaby. The part theatre part concert, part play is a intimate solo show about an unwanted pregnancy and the decisions that surrounded the circumstances.
“We touch on all of the hilarious parts and all of the difficult parts and everything in between,” Deleo said.
With everything going on globally with women’s rights and reproductive rights, Deleo felt that she needed to use her platform to tell her story, and create art.
This experience is mostly done in shadows of shame and judgement and Deleo wants to create a little bit of light.
“It’s such a solitary experience, no matter how much support you have and help and how correct the decision is,” she said.
“It’s difficult to feel like you’re not alone”
The show is full of music, but also full of characters and comedy and storytelling. Deleo started with music to process the hard experiences that brought her to where she is now. She’s also found levity in her own story and wanted to capture it. She wants folks to be open to hearing her story.
Two Moons: A Folk Lullaby is presented by Handsome Alice Theatre and runs from March 14 – 22 at the Pumphouse Theatre. More information is available online.
