So I haven’t really been cooking lately because I’ve been so busy doing contract work for a couple shows. But I’ve moved (again!) and things have calmed down in my world so I jumped back into it.
I was having a discussion the other day about how I LOVE listening to Julie Van Rosendaal on the Eyeopener on CBC, but I’m not as much of a fan of making her recipes. I tried her portabello mushroom pizzas. They were okay.
But I saw this and I had to try it.
So here is my blog confession. I can cook (no really!) reasonably well. I can follow directions. I make a LOT of pasta, because that’s what I know how to make.
So… I’ve never really cooked with bacon. My family doesn’t eat it, so I’ve never cooked with it. Same with kale, except my family just didn’t cook with it. They would eat it just fine.
So I made this recipe and got to the point where I had all this bacon drippings and didn’t know what to do with them. And I had all this bacon.
So I googled, yes Googled, what to do with everything. I figured I could freeze the bacon but I didn’t know how long it would keep. (Um ya. I didn’t think pouring oil down the drain was a good idea either)
This is why cooking isn’t the easiest thing all the time. I don’t want to screw it up. But I lower my incompetence level by trying.
As for this recipe, it was alright. Kind of blah. Not blow you away.
But then I had the leftovers for lunch and it was pretty good. Maybe I’m just too judgemental.
So decent. Maybe cream would make it a little better next time…
Hey! Mine looks a lot like hers. Minus the pepper. (Couldn’t find it in my new abode)
