Cirque Du Soleil’s Kurios is a spectacle of Curiosities

Cirque Du Soleil productions are all about the complete experience, from when you walk into the big top, until you walk out. Kurios – Cabinet of Curiosities does not disappoint. There is always something to be in awe of as you make your way to your seats. There is bridge in the centre of the stage that patrons are walking across while clowns throw paper air planes into the audience.

The show opens to reveal the wonders of Kurios, where The Seeker looks to find the invisible world that he believes is just out there. He launches us into a series of acts including the jaw dropping act of the Russian Cradle Duo and Rola Bola. The first half of Kurios is filled with jugglers, acrobats, dancers along with intricate costumes and makeup. It’s very easy to be caught up watching one thing, that you completely miss another. The musicians providing the music and singing are quite impressive as is all of the movement from the dancers. This production in its first half is thoughtful and balances the jaw dropping with a lighter, fun act entitled the Invisible Circus.

The second half of Kurios drops its narrative a bit, but still features some excellent acts, namely Aerial Straps and Banquine. The moves of the acrobats flying through the air is immersive and Banquine is a group of 13 artists who basically balance on each other and create human pyramids like its no big deal.

If you’ve never seen a Cirque Du Soleil production, then Kurios is not to be missed. If you’re an expert in Cirque, then Kurios is still a spectacle that will leave you in awe.

Cirque Du Soleil’s Kurios runs under the Big Top at Stampede Park until May 24th. More information is available online.
