The 2014 Critter Winners

Posted by & filed under Theatre.

Last night was the award ceremony for the Calgary Theatre Critics’ Awards, in which I was part of, for the first year.
It was night of laughs and some tears, complete with Nenshi giving out Evans Awards and Dave Kelly closing out the night with a speech about going home and doing better (Kelly was nominated for his play Dad, Day 1 in two categories but did not win).

It was a bittersweet night, as the founding critic of the awards is leaving us to go to Houston. Jessica Goldman is the reason the awards are here and we are truly sad to see her go.

Shout out to Duval Lang, who gave his acceptance speech the way he directs high school students, with a couple of F bombs thrown in every sentence.

There were so many people who thanked us later for hosting and bringing the community together. I’m so pleased that the community has embraced the awards and had so much fun being a host. I’ve got the torch, here is looking forward to next year.
