The Jupiter Rebellion: A Zach Zultana Adventure – Review

Posted by & filed under REVIEWS, Theatre.

Jeff Leard and Ron Fromstein wrote The Jupiter Rebellion: A Zach Zultana Adventure and it stars Leard alone on stage with one chair. It has such potential to be really, very good, or a complete flop. It’s a success mostly because Leard has such charm and energy as a solo performer.

The play tells of Zach Zultana, in a sci-fi comedy that is a combination of Star Wars and the Matrix and maybe the Island. The good parts of those movies at least. Leard plays Zach, our hero and his friend Nick who is a Hispanic sidekick, as well as Alex the beautiful women Zach connects with. Alex also happens to be the bosses wife, who finds out about Zach’s relations and responds rather negatively.

The thing about this play that makes it a lot of fun is Jeff breaking into the narrative with the aid of lighting to illustrate the blockbuster effects you would see if he had millions of dollars. It gives the show another dimension and illustrates Leard’s talent being able to flip in and out of characters.

This is one of the top shows to see in the Calgary Fringe Festival.
